Our Community Heritage Festival takes place on Saturday 13 June 2026 at The Bear Church, Frankham Street, Deptford, SE8 4RN.

It will be an exciting afternoon of activities related to the history and heritage of the Deptford Ragged School.

Lots of fun and interest for all ages, including:

  • A Food Festival with food made and shared by ESOL students from The Bear Church, ‘Cooking with English’ programme

  • A Flower Show, with flowers & veg planted by people all over the borough during the past few weeks

  • Meet the researchers, with our lovely team of Community Researchers sharing the stories they’ve uncovered

  • Activities by Creekside Discovery Centre connecting the history of the Deptford Ragged School to the ‘wow’ of nature.

  • Debut screening of our film with IRIE! dance theatre, ‘A Light in a Dark Place’

  • A Bake Sale with some historical bakes alongside old favourites

  • A chance to see the new Lewisham Heritage maroon plaque recently installed on The Bear Church building
